Marty Haggard

Marty Haggard Marty was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. Of course, everyone knows his Dad, Merle Haggard. Marty considers his dad the greatest singer/songwriter ever and I’m sure a lot of people agree with that. Growing up, Marty was able to travel with his dad and witness the writing and recording of all his great songs. He also had the opportunity to know many of the country greats, like Bob Wills, Lefty Frizzell, and Johnny Cash, just to name a few. It’s obvious Marty was influenced by the legendary artists and their music while traveling with his dad. In 1979, Marty began touring with his own band, signing with Dimension Records in 1981. From 1983 to 1985, Marty toured with his dad, playing guitar and singing harmony. Marty signed with MTM Records in 1986 and released Trains Make Me Lonesome, which garnered him a nomination as best new male vocalist. Marty signed with Critique/BMG in 1995 and after some time decided to leave the Nashville lifestyle behind.

Marty’s love for his dad and his music eventually inspired him to begin a new project, which he titled, A Tribute to Merle Haggard “My Dad”. In 2010, he recorded the first album of this project with a 15-song CD of Hag classics. This led to a tribute show in Branson, Mo.

Mo Pitney

Mo PitneyWhen the time came for Mo Pitney to choose a title track for his new album, there was little doubt as to which song it should be. After years spent both honing his sound and growing his family, Pitney reached something of a turning point: He knew who he was as an artist and a person, and felt it was time to introduce himself in song. The title of new track "Ain't Lookin' Back" summed things up better than anything else could, and Pitney's long-awaited sophomore album was born. Ain't Lookin' Back follows Pitney's 2016 debut Behind This Guitar, an acclaimed LP that cracked Billboard's Top Ten Country Albums Chart the first week of its release. Pitney recorded Behind This Guitar with veteran producer Tony Brown, an experience he says greatly informed how he approached his time in the studio for Ain't Lookin' Back.

"Since then, I feel like I’ve learned a lot being in the studio," Pitney says. "I almost learned so much it made me partially gun-shy on this second album. When you’re in the middle of making an album, at least my first album, everything was exciting and sounded good to me. I didn’t know what I really wanted and what I didn’t." In the years following Behind This Guitar's release, Pitney found himself "writing for the sake of writing," as he puts it, following his passion to "write every day" and see what comes of the practice. "I don’t know that I was even thinking much about making my next album," he says. "But when I had about five or six songs that I really started to want to play live, the thought came into my mind, ‘It’s time to make a record.’"
